the beatles??

Posted by admin on March 9th, 2010 and filed under beatles anthology | 5 Comments »

I’m doing a project about british music in the 60’s and want to do a page on the beatles. does anybody know about any SHORT books for younger people that include basic info about the band and the members? I’m not looking to read some 800-page beatles anthology here, just like a 30 page thing or less. can anyone suggest any books?

i can only have a limited # of sources, so it should have info (liek mini-bios) about ALL the band members as well as info about the band. thanks!

oh! i did a project like this. this one book really helped…..

1960s : the age of rock
Malcolm Hayes
(Series: 20th century music)

it’s very good. they highlight many greats points of the music in the 60s. they have a beatles section too! check it out!

How did The Beatles feel about doing LSD?

Posted by admin on March 7th, 2010 and filed under beatles anthology | 9 Comments »

I was reading "The Beatles Anthology" last night and it’s getting to the part when they start doing LSD (in ‘65). And it said that George was on LSD or something and it totally messed up how he thought and stuff. How did The Beatles feel about doing LSD? Were they ok with it or did they not like the idea of it? I’m just curious.

Thanks :]

MQ: Later work or early work of The Beatles?
I knew that it meant LSD. The song is still trippy and cool though. lol. It’s actually one of the songs that got me into them. Weird huh?

from what i heard, john liked the acid. it kinda strained his relationship with his wife, but he loved the feeling it gave him.

mccartney wasnt a huge fan, but took it a couple of times.

i hear george and john got closer after their first "trip" together.

i have no clue about ringo :[ but i know he did it

after they went to india though, they renounced drugs.

but even though drugs suck, think about how much creative things the beatles did on it :] such a bad escuse, but so true!

Beatles songs?

Posted by admin on March 3rd, 2010 and filed under beatles anthology | 10 Comments »

My daughter is at that age when she will want to listen current music (hip hop and crap). Before she gets too involved I want her to be influenced by something with more meaning like the Beatles.

I want to get an album that encompasses their entire career up to when McCartney started with Wings. Which Beatles Anthology/Box Set will suit my needs?
Hopsmaster, it is worth a try isn’t it? Like I said I want her to ‘influenced’ which is different than forcing her to like the Beatles.

Besides… she likes Country music which is better than hip hop and crap; so it is a start.
Hey Josh, Yep there are many good styles of music. I am slowly making my way through them. We’ve been listening to Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi, etc… just to name a few classical artists that we’ve been listening to recently. As well as blues from various parts of the country (Chicago, Louisianna, etc) and zydeco!

THE BEATLES ROCK!!!

Beatles fans, please help me with answering this survey?

Hi this is my second Beatles Survey :D I love the band, and I love opinions, so lets boogie with answers lol XD It’s either or, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE explanations. Your most likely to get 10 points that way♥

1. John or Paul?
2. George or Ringo?
3. Yoko or Linda?
4. 1964 music or 1967 music?
5. Abbey Road or Sgt. Peppers?
6. White Album or Revolver?
7. Rubber Soul or Hard Days Night?
8. Moptops or Hippies?
9. Help (the movie) or Hard Days Night (movie)?
10. The Beatles Anthology or The Beatles 1?
11. Hey Jude or Come Together?
12. Strawberry Fields or Yesterday?
13. Something or While My Guitar Gently Weeps?
14. Beatles Video Game or Beatles on iTunes?
15. Beatles wives or Beatles kids?

1. John (So much more substance to his songs)
2. Ringo (Most ‘down-to-Earth’ of the four)
3. Yoko (Got a lot more trash than ANYONE deserves)
4. (Tough one…depends on mood …if I’m feeling ‘up’ it’s the earlier stuff…if I’m feeling pensive…the later)
5. Abbey Road (everybody said that Sgt. was 1st "concept" album where songs ‘flowed into each other..Abbey Road did much better job with that…with much better songs)
6. White Album (TON of good songs)
7. Rubber Soul (2 favorite songs: "In My Life" & "Girl" on R.S.
8. Moptops (how cute were they? …I’m a guy btw…& NOT gay)
9. "Help" (as far as storyline went…but HDN had better music)
10. Beatles 1 (jus cuz)
11. Hey Jude (Their all-time classic…tho not my favorite)
12. Strawberry Fields (on lyrics alone)
13. Something (1 of the greatest love songs of all-time)
14. iTunes
15. Kids (lots of back-stories..Sean, Julian, Dhani…)

…is that ENOUGH explainations?

What do you think is the best investment for music by The Beatles?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under beatles anthology | 3 Comments »

I am really getting into The Beatles lately, and I am doing my research on what the best investment of my time and money would be for albums to buy would be.
First of all, I already have four Beatles albums on CD that I got from my dad: A Hard Day’s Night, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Revolver, and Abbey Road.
I am interested in getting much more music, and it seems that the best way to do that would be to buy anthology-type albums, that have the ‘best’ songs all together.
I was looking at sets, and I was wondering if anyone has opinions on if they are good or not.
Here are ones that I have been considering:
The Beatles Anthology: http://beatles.fanfire.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/fanfire.woa/wa/product?sourceCode=BEAWEB&sku=BEA38034
Anthology CD part 1: http://beatles.fanfire.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/fanfire.woa/wa/product?sourceCode=BEAWEB&sku=BEA38010
Anthology CD part 2: http://beatles.fanfire.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/fanfire.woa/wa/product?sourceCode=BEAWEB&sku=BEA38017
Anthology CD part 3: http://beatles.fanfire.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/fanfire.woa/wa/product?sourceCode=BEAWEB&sku=BEA38018
LOVE: http://beatles.fanfire.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/fanfire.woa/wa/product?sourceCode=BEAWEB&sku=BEA40119
1: http://beatles.fanfire.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/fanfire.woa/wa/product?sourceCode=BEAWEB&sku=BEA38007

Does anyone own any of these, because I want to know if they are really any good.
Do you recommend getting actual albums and completing my collection that way, such as Let It Be, and The White Album, or getting anthologies?
Also, I heard talk that some albums or anthologies will be redone and the sound quality will be made better some time in 2009. Does anyone know anything about that? Would it be better to wait and spend my money on even better quality, or get CD’s now?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

i own 1, anthology part 2, and LOVE.
1 is a good cd, it has most of the classics and you cant go wrong getting that
anthology part 2 is good as well, it has some "original" recordings where they talk in it and stuff and i think it would be nice to own all of the anthologies eventually. its also good because if you can get it for cheap its a two disk and comes with a total of 45 songs
LOVE is good if you already know the beatles music because it’s basically a revamped version where some of the songs are mixed together. like a modern phycadellic kind of thing that they used for cirque de soeli (sp??) so id recommned that for sure but probably after you buy and know some of the songs from the other two
