Esther Williams. She was such a great swimmer and always looked gorgeous in her movies. Because of the polio scare when we were kids, we were limited to swimming in the ocean and rarely got to go to the public pools. Her movies were pure fantasy for me and I loved them. Beauty and athletic ability are traits I admired then and still do.

My second oldest sister, then I grew up and we were bFF’s and I realized she was not who I made her out to be and I was very crushed for a very long time… funny isn’t it, how you grow up and realize people are not really who you thought they were when you were little, they are not gods!!!

My Auntie Virginia. She was a schoolteacher, but she was the first in the family to get a graduate degree. When she was young, she traveled throughout Europe working as an au pair for a doctor’s family. She wore clothes that had a designer’s name and didn’t come from Sears or Penneys. In her fifties, she bought herself a Nintendo Game Boy because she liked Super Mario and Tetris. She was generous and clever.

She died in 1996 of a terrible disease called scleroderma. I miss her terribly, and now that I’m older and appreciate what a maverick she was, I wish she was here so we could shop, and talk, and travel together.

a second cousin, she had a great personality...very kind, meticulous, pretty enough, a cute boyfriend..well her life has had great sadness, her husband was killed, her son and his whole family were killed, her baby son had got hit but has survived and she is still as graceful and even more beautiful..

my aunt Jane
She was tall and wore a beehive hairdo.
She hunted and fished like a guy and her kids didn’t back talk her.
She was strong in the church, and could sing spirituals so well.
Jane was my hero.

my parents had friends who had a daughter who was 20 when i was 12. she was an RN, very pretty, had a new mustang and for some reason i thought she as cool cause she worked nights and could sleep all day. i wanted to be her she really was nice which made it easier to idolize her. She ended up being a director in little rock...
