Band tees?

What is your opinion of people who wear/purchase band merchandise of bands that they don’t listen to? This especially applies to people who purchase "vintage band tees" of bands such as the Ramones, Beatles, Doors, AC/DC, etc. Does is bother you, as a fan, that they are soiling the band’s name for the sake of looking retro and cool or do you simply not care?
*it bother you

Ugh, yes it REALLY bothers me.
Ok, I’ve been a fan of like The Beatles, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin..ALL of them since I was like 4, I’m now 15. And lately everybody is pretending to like them all wearing their shirts and everything.

Actually today I had like a break down about this. I went into hot topic to buy a rock tee, and it reminded me well this boy had a Led Zeppelin at my school and he was like ‘Yeah, my favorite member is John Lennon.’
and I was like ‘what the heck-’
And also this girl was talking about Nirvana and shes like ‘Yeah I like them.’ and then some kid had a shirt with a picture of Kurt Kobain and she pointed at it and asked me if the guy was Jimi Hendrix.

ugh, its annoying. =/

It does bother me, cause I really shows how people care so much about image. The rocker look is "in" now so everyone’s pretending to love alot of bands for the sole purpose of being in style and not really appreciating the music. This one girl was wearing a Jim Morrison T shirt and I was like "You like the doors?" (cause I was shocked cause I knew she loved FOB) and she’s like "What’s the Doors?" it’s kinnda sad.
And whenever I wear band Tshirts now, I get called a poser, cause people now automatically assume everone wearing a band T is a poser.

When I see people younger than me {I’m 25} walking around in Led Zep, Pink Floyd, etc. t-shirts, my first thought is always "are they actually a fan?"

Personally, it is a great fashion revival IF the wearer is a fan of the band / artist. Wearing the shirts just because they are trendy does seem offensive. After all, they were originally produced for fans to show alligiance to their favourite musical artists.

    Edit :~

Just to add to what some people below have said :~

If people are going to claim they like a band / artist, they should at least try to find out a bit about them.
My 13 yr old cousin told me she loved Queen {her dad is a fan}, but when I asked her, she couldn’t name any songs.

And I read something about a guy asking a teenager if he liked Bob Marley, as he was wearing a t-shirt with his picture on. The reply ~ "Who?".

There’s a question on here asking ‘Do YOU think Led Zepplin purposly put sumbliminal messages in his songs?’

    Note the obvious mistake?!

And to give another view :~

Someone told me they had got talking to a couple of teenagers. One was wearing a Led Zep t-shirt. When asked if he was a fan, he was quick to name his favourite songs and what he liked about them!

    There is hope yet!

posers. I never wear anything I don’t know about. If I were a band T-shirt, I make sure I know at least 90% of their songs.

It’s very misleading. The other day I saw someone around my age (I’m 18) wearing a Stones t-shirt. I pointed to their shirt and said "That’s cool…I saw them in concert last year. Have you ever seen them?" (or something to that nature). They were completely clueless. The only song they knew was Satisfaction.

VW Buses, vintage rock t-shirts, big jewelery and all that is coming into style again. If social awareness and good music was once again becoming popular, then hell yeah to that! However, it’s just a matter of looking "cool"….very stupid.

if they don’t like the band… it’s kind of pointless to wear their merchandise. why repersent a band you don’t listen to? as for wearing band stuff… it’s cool if you actually like and listen to them band.
