are there any bands you have an emotional or spiritual connection to? share you story no matter the length?

i have two. first the beatles, because i remember being a child and listening to nothing but all of their discography. i had no idea what i am the walrus means other than it was funny and like ice cream for my ears, delightful, fifteen years later and i feel the exact same way, that’s timeless.

second would have to be radiohead it was four years ago when i was seventeen that i became an extremely depressed adolescent and stopped going to school so my parents thought it would be best if i went on a vacation to israel to visit my family and clear my head in hopes of me coming back their happy innocent child i was once. no such luck for them but luckily for me my brother lent me his ipod which had the entire radiohead discography and up until that point i had only been exposed to creep but thanks to the ten hour plane ride there and back i fell in love and began to feel accepted and found an outlet of melodies that made me feel not so alone in tracks like pyramid song and paranoid android. every single one of their albums is art all the way from pablo honey to in rainbows.

music is amazing and is a second religion to me.

Just to start off, I am also in love with the Beatles and feel very emotionally attached to them. My other bands include but are not limited to Ani DiFranco (she who helps me through EVERY relationship I’ve ever had, she’s brilliant and bold), Placebo (who helped me through my troubled high school days and later when I found drugs), Ben Harper (who was there for me when I was entering psychosis and had a deep obsession for nature and weed), Panic! At theDisco (their Pretty. Odd. album was the basis of a lot of delusional thoughts, but I’m happy they were there because they made them happy thoughts. All in all I was a very happy schizophrenic person until the paranoia set in). Then there are all the muscials that influence my life Les Mis being one of my favs. I feel like Eponine most of my days and I love singing with her on the tracks. Music is my second love next to God. It was almost completely taken away from me when I was in psychosis because I was paranoid and thought that it was all live music and that the artists were singing to me, but they were singing horrible things to me and it drove me to the point where I wouldn’t listen to music at all. Thankfully I’m not like that anymore, but sadly for me, while I wasn’t listening to music I was smoking and not exercising my voice and I can’t sing like I used to. I was lead in my high school musical (Thoroughly Modern Millie) and I can’t even hope to hit those notes anymore
