Why aren’t the Beatles played more on the radio?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

(At least in my area – is it different elsewhere?)

They are often labeled the most influential band of the 20th century, but I very seldom hear them played on the radio (on stations geared toward music from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s). Nowhere near as much as I hear, say, Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple. And it’s not as if the Beatles are an indulgent prog band with fifteen minute solos – most of their discography consists of very tight pop songs with catchy melodies (with a few glaring exceptions, such as "Revolution 9" or "I Want You [She's So Heavy]"). So why are they so rarely played on today’s radio?

This question has been in my mind since last December. I had a 90 minute drive on Christmas Eve and stumbled upon a radio station playing nothing but Beatles all night (including post-1970 solo songs, since I heard "Photograph" and "Give Me Love [Give Me Peace on Earth]"). It made the ride loads more fun – near magical in fact. lol But it made me realize how rarely I hear ‘em on/radio

Because as any scan of the radio dial will tell you, today’s music is crap, but it sells. So radio and record labels sell crap rather than offer quality.

I own all of the Beatles albums. Is it worth going out and buying the new digital remasters?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Over the past few years I have spent quite a few dollars to get all of The Beatles music on CD. Now they have re-released these CD’s and they have been digitaly remastered. Is it worth buying them all over again?

Personal choice. I’m listening to ‘Blackbird’ off the White Album remaster right now and no kidding it’s like Paul is in the room (I wish), for hardcore fans I can’t reccommend them enough but the average music listener probably wouldn’t notice the difference.

Why are there no official Beatles songs on iTunes?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

So i went on the iTunes store the other day and there are no songs sung by the beatles! Why is this? Or am i just not looking hard enough?

Copyright issues. In 1968, The Beatles formed a company called Apple Corps. It ended up being a financial disaster (except Apple Records, which is still around today). But when Apple Computers came around, they wrote up an agreement with Apple Records that would let them use their trademark, in exchange for $80,000. Also, as a condition, Apple Computers could never enter the music buisness, nor Apple Records enter the computer buisness.

But when iTunes came out, Apple Records sued, saying that they broke the conditions of their contract. Unfortunately for them, the judge sided with Apple Computers. Relations between the two companies broke down, and to make a long story short, The Beatles will not allow their music to go on iTunes.

I reccomend going to Wal-Mart or something and buying the physical CDs, then ripping them into your computer.

What is your way of enjoying The Beatles music?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

I generally find that people who really like the Beatles have different ways of enjoying thm-
Some sing along, some learn to play the songs on an instrument, some analyse the lyrics, some love watching the videos and movies, some are interested in Beatles’ history, some are interested in Beatles’ stories, some discuss their music, some just listen to the music and love it, some go to concerts, some go on tours of "Beatle places", some collect photos and memorabilia,
some hear the covers of Beatles’ songs, some dress up like they’re the Beatles, and some like me like to do or would like to do all of the above.

i hate Beatles.

~ possibly add fifth wheels like Brian Epstein, George Martin, Yoko Ono , Linda McCartney, or the children of theirs,
~ psychedelic type image would be one good idea, though you could also do earlier suit and tie drawing or later post 70′s drawings,
~ you could do b&w sketches, water colours, or pastel,
~ this time of year, you could add christmas flare to drawings,
~ you could do an age time-line of each member,
~ you could try changing perspective of their pictures from how you would see them today and yesterday,
~ you could ad sounds and lights to posters,
also mix those and other ideas in a combined poster set, and have fun,☺
